Dancehall star Konshens believes that fellow act Sean Paul is the “biggest artiste out of Jamaica.”  The Winner singer made the declaration while being interviewed by DJ Buck of Hot 93.7 out of Hartford, Connecticut, in the USA on Wednesday evening.

“Mi think Sean Paul a di biggest artiste out a Jamaica and that wi get mi inna trouble because remember say Bob Marley deh pon d list to but Sean Paul mi seh a d biggest artiste, da same likkle humble man deh,” Konshens told DJ Buck.

Konshens was also asked who were his top five dancehall acts. He revealed a list that included Beenie ManBounty KillerSizzla, and Vybz Kartel but indicated that it had to be six for him as he had to include both Shaggy and Sean Paul.

“Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Sizzla Kalonji, seen that’s four. Yow you see five, mi wan say Sean Paul and Shaggy, so it haffi be six,” the Backaz artiste remarked.

“For just raw talent and fi de culture, that’s why dem top four deh deh as a Dancehall fanatic..,” he added.

Konshens’ list of top dancehall acts would be one many would agree on, but his bold declaration that the Temperature singer was the biggest artiste coming out of the land of reggae and dancehall might up for some debate.

Sean Paul, in his own right, is one of the most prolific acts out of Jamaica. His singles Get Busy, and Temperature have topped the charts in the US, making him a mainstream artiste, while his album Dutty Rock scooped the best Grammy award. He has also been featured on massive hits such as Baby Boy with Beyonce and Sia’s Cheap Thrills.

However, for most persons, Bob Marley will forever be Jamaica’s greatest export, having helped to push the reggae genre mainstream and serves as the face of reggae internationally as fan one chimed in during the Live interview, “Bob marley the original king of Jamaica.”

Marley’s song One Love was proclaimed Song of the Millennium by the BBC.

Konshens also gave his take on what he thought was going on with the younger artistes in the dancehall space.

“New crop coming up, wha mi look pon right now definitely Kemar Highcon, definitely, seen. Mi think all a d yute dem have them vibes and ting as local talent mi definitely see Kemar as international talent,” he remarked.

PopcaanShenseea, and Dexta Daps also came in for high praise from the singer.

Konshens also revealed that he was working on new music with producer Rvssian that he expects to have a big impact when it is released.

Though, when pressed, he didn’t provide a release date or the other featured Jamaican artiste on the track, who said he’s never worked with before. “It ah go nice, man,” he said.
